Never Have I Ever

I recently started reading "Never Have I Ever" by Sara Shepard. This is the sequel to "The Lying Game" book. In this story, there are these twins, Emma and Sutton. Sutton died and Emma was put in a complicated situation where she is now taking over Sutton's life and pretending to be her sister. Sutton and Emma never actually met. They were supposed to, the night Emma received a letter and was blackmailed into being Sutton. Later, she found out from another letter, Sutton was killed. Emma's goal in the book is to figure out who is sending the notes and ultimately, who the killer is. Also, everyone in Sutton, or Emma's new life, thinks that Emma really is Sutton. No one knows about the twins - except for Ethan, Emma's boyfriend.
Sara Shepard uses a lot of foreshadowing in this book to give it a mystery theme. In the first couple chapters that I've read, Sutton's locket necklace that Emma's wearing comes up a lot. Sara also mentioned that there is a vague, blurry video of Sutton being killed wearing the same locket necklace. I'm thinking this locket will be a very important item in the upcoming plot.
Sara also talks about how "those we least suspect turn out to be our biggest threats." This was said right at the very beginning of the book in the prologue. It's kind of like Sara Shepard is warning you to pay attention to the close details in the book of the characters, because any of them could be guilty. And that's what makes this book so fun to read. It is constantly making you think and analyze the text. I feel like I'm kind of a detective when I read it figuring out all the clues to come to a conclusion with Emma about who the killer is.

  1. Right now I am reading The Lying Game, so I am interested in the next book you have been describing. It sounds like the locket comes up more in the second book than the first, and that there are more repeating themes. I read this blog because I was wondering what changes in the next book and if more mysteries occur. Apparently more things happen in the next book, but the main plot of the story sounds the same: Emma trying to find Sutton's murderer. In the second book does Emma receive more letters and clues about Sutton? Will Emma ever meet the murderer? Does anyone else find out about this mystery? I hope to read the next book after I finish The Lying Game because it sounds really good and I'd like to keep the story of Emma and Sutton continuing.

  2. I also read the Lying Game earlier this year and I know want to read Never Have I Ever. I am interested in what happens to the Locket, and how this series continues in the future. I also agree with you that it's so fun to read because of the interesting characters in this series and you can almost puzzle clues together to try to figure out who did this horrible crime. I am looking forward to reading this book in the near future. In addition I have a great recommendation that is like these books, Pretty Little Liars. Although I have only read the first one, it was similar to the Lying Game and also written by Sarah Shepard.
