For One More Day

Mitch Albom is one of if not my favorite authors. I've only read three or four of his books, but all are so personal that they teach life lessons without taking you on a guilt trip and making you cry. Some of his other books that I have read include Tuesdays with Morrie, The 5 People You Meet in Heaven, and I read half of Have a little faith. The book I read most recently, though, was called For One More Day. Mitch was watching a little league baseball game in his old hometown and somebody walked up and asked him what he was doing there. The two men started talking and the other guy pointed at an old guy on the other fence and told Mitch that that was a guy with a story. He had played major league baseball and then tried to kill himself. Albom went over and introduced himself to the guy and this is Chick Benetto's story. The most intriguing part is that when Benetto tries to kill himself, he has another day with his dead mother. She helps him understand a lot of the confusing things in his life, and makes him go back to clean it up before joins her in heaven. Chick died recently, but after that one day with his mother he put his whole life back together. The book skips from the present back to the past showing us little clippings of his life. This helps the reader to understand where Chick is coming from and why he is the way he is. It proves that anyone can get better and is a supporter of moms everywhere. There's one thing Moms can always do, no matter what you've done. They can offer advice on how to make it better, and a lot of times - it works. I would tell anyone to read this book. It's not the most exciting of Mitch Albom's books, but if you are going through a rough time, it will give you hope that things will get better.
