I recently started the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding. So far not a lot has happened since I am only 41 pages in. What we know is that there has been a plane crash on to a tropical island, and that no adults seem to have survived. The first two characters introduced are Ralph and Piggy. Piggy is overweight but seems smart and Ralph is just an average kid. Piggy also tells Ralph that Piggy isn't his real name and to please not tell anyone. Piggy and Ralph find a large shell on the beach called a conch. Piggy tells Ralph that if he blows into the shell it may make a big noise and then if there are other survivors they will come toward the noise. Ralph blows the shell several times and out of the jungle come a lot of other boys. Some of the boys are little, six or seven years old, while others are more like Piggy and Ralph's age. One of the groups of the boys to come toward Piggy and Ralph is a group of choir boys dressed in their black robes. Their leader is named Jack. Piggy makes sure to get all the boys names. Once the group is together they decide that they should elect a leader. Jack wants to be the leader since he is already the leader of the choir, but when they have the election Ralph wins. Ralph is nice to Jack though and makes him the leader of the hunters. Somehow Ralph accidentally tells the other Piggy's name and Piggy is upset.
Next Ralph decides that a small group should go explore the island and make sure that it is really an island and see if there is anything there to see. Jack, Ralph and another boy head out. Piggy wants to go too but he would just slow them down so they tell him to wait with the other boys. He keeps following them and finally Ralph has to be mean and yell at him. They discovered that the island was an island. They also found a wild pig and were going to kill it, but Jack took too long to do it. Finally they returned to the beach where the other boys were waiting.
