Separation Of Power

I recently read the book Separation of Power by Vince Flynn. The book has two different conflicts that continue throughout the book. First of all, Mitch Rapp, an American CIA operative, is still trying to find out who hired a duo of assassins to kill him. Also, Rapp is preoccupied with his girlfriend, reporter Anna Rielly, and how he should propose to her. Everything falls apart, though, after Mitch travels to Italy to meet with a woman he used to work with. He brings his girlfriend along with him, because he thinks of Italy as the perfect place to finally propose. But, things get complicated when Anna finds out the other reason Mitch wanted to go to Italy, and that the person he met with happened to be an old girlfriend of Rapp's. Rapp is also faced with the trouble of another attempt on his life while in Italy. While all this is going on, the other conflict is that Israel has told the U.S. president that Saddam Hussein is close to possessing a nuclear weapon. President Hayes's administration scrambles to find a solution to the problem, and eventually everyone agrees to send in a team of specialists, led by Mitch Rapp, to take out the weapons.
I did not like this book quite as much as the first three books, but I still thought it was a good read. The two main conflicts seemed very random at first, because the author did not connect them until later in the book. Also, the author seemed to give a lot of unneeded background information on many different topics throughout the book, so it got a little bit slow at some parts. However, everything came together nicely in the end, and I thought the conclusion was great. Overall, this is a good book, and I would recommend it to those who have read the first three books in the series and enjoy books centered around action and spying.
